The first version of this proposal, "Reparations to Repatriate," was submitted to the HR-40 by Howshua Amariel, head rabbi of the Yisraelite Organization of Unity, at the first national reparations meeting in Chicago in 2001.
Rabbi Amariel's vision was to create a unifying document that could rally support from various advocacy groups, both those who had submitted proposals and those who hadn’t. This vision continues today with a commitment to inclusivity and collaboration.
This latest iteration has been enriched with insights from the Kingdom of God, adding a profound moral and spiritual dimension.
For over a century, organizations like the Yisraelite Organization of Unity and the Tabernacle Congregation of Prayer have tirelessly advocated for justice and reparations, striving to heal the wounds left by centuries of enslavement.
This proposal is intentionally unfinished. We believe in a collaborative approach where the final version will include contributions from all affected communities and advocacy groups. Once we have a unified proposal, we will push for the president to sign this into law by executive order.
Your voice is crucial in shaping this document. Together, we can create a comprehensive and impactful proposal that addresses the needs and aspirations of all descendants of enslaved individuals.
